Vanitas Helm - Step 1

start of my Vanitas cosplay.

I used featherweight's basic helmet tutorial ( [link] ) for the base of the helmet and a replacement bike helmet for the visor. and yes, in case your wondering, yes, that is cardboard.

this is the second attempt at a helmet I've made, and I'll actually be able to see out of this one 8DDD

I'm making it on top of a wig head that's layered in about an inch of packing foam to make the base of the helmet actually proportional to the size of my skull. Wig heads have a crown measurement of about 18 to 20 inches depending on the style, while my own head is about 22", so you have to pad it something to compensate the measurement.

i'm going to cover the cap of the head with layers of Bondo, then sand it down to make it smooth and a bit more skin tight. When I'm sure it's going to look round enough, then I'm going to secure the visor on, and build up the lower chin detailing work on the helmet and paint it up :'3
